Scarcity and Abundance

Last week I witnessed a lady creating a huge disturbance in a local store because they had run out of the toilet paper that they had on special. She said she had called ahead and was supposed to be on the list.
I thought to myself, you have to get on a list for toilet paper? Now I must admit that I don’t know how much the savings to her would have been, but toilet paper is not a high priced commodity and the cap on potential savings has to be fairly low.
What struck me was the desperation and anger that this women was feeling. It was obvious that she lived her life from a belief of scarcity. There isn’t enough of life to go around so hold on to what’s yours tightly and fight to get even a little more. What this leads to is living life always trying to get. You can’t give from who you are when you believe life is scarce.

Celebrate who you are

We waste so much time fretting about what there is to do, or how little we have done, or how far we think we have to go in life, or the mistakes we have done

Stop fretting – and start doing

Don’t allow your mind to think – allow your heart to do

Choose life, not death – it was given to you on the day you were born

A shiny package of infinite possibility waiting patiently to be realized by you.

A gift so intricately designed that only you can see it, know it, live it.

A gift custom designed for you.

Don’t fret – it is useless and will destroy you.

Like a flesh eating bacteria it will leave you as a lump of bones, bloodied and still.

Embrace the who of you that was given to you by the Master

In your eternal design lies God’s declaration.

Yes! Yes! Yes!

questions for life design

When hard facts or hard times come into your life, the question remains, “Do you grasp the reason why? What have you put on hold? What haven’t you explored? What is deep in your heart? Who do you really love? Do you acknowledge these things in your life?” You should because this thing called life is not a practice run. You are in the real game. You step forward and really play. The door is in front of you – come on in, we’re waiting!

Making life work?

From infancy, everyone sets out to make life work. We begin with crying as our chosen tool to get what we think we need and progress to elaborate games of pretending, compromise, the different “masks” we try on, body language, vocal inflections, those sad face eyes, and the list goes on. Does this really make life work? Are we really satisfied? Maybe the increased levels of anxiety and stress in our lives can answer that question.

I was thinking about the above the other day as I watched my 9 year old daughter with our cats. She loves cats, and we have 3 for her to love, coddle, and all around spoil. In her heart she has a pure desire to make their lives better, but she doesn’t yet understand what real love really looks like. She thinks her ideas for the cats will be what they absolutely love. In fact she informed me that today was the birthday for 2 of our cats who are sisters. She wants a cake, presents, a party, and basically the works. Can’t you just imagine the anticipation of the cats? She is always going to the store and using her hard earned allowance to buy things like cat condos and other feline goodies. She knows she is just going to make the cat’s day. However, most of the time the cats could care less. They don’t want to be stuck in the third floor of a cat condo. Cats by their very nature love to explore and discover on their own. As much as my daughter loves the cats, she doesn’t understand that real love is not forcing on another what she thinks they should like.

Lest we judge her too harshly, we all do the same thing. Okay, maybe we don’t do it with cats or other animals, but we do it with each other. We labor and try to force our lives into the box we think it belongs, and we do the same with those around us that we say we love. This really doesn’t work, does it?

Real love and real life is meant to be lived successfully out of our design and the design of others, not forced. Our lives are best lived as they flow organically out of who we were created to be. When we authentically live this way, we tend to attract others whose design complements ours. Then as we live ours and allow them the freedom to discover and live theirs, we find that life works as it was meant to. Forcing life or love is never the better way, but it is often the only way when you don’t know who you really are. Maybe it’s time to discover who you were designed to be?

What fills your soul?

I am happy even before I have a reason.

I am full of light even before the sky

Can greet the sun or the moon.

Dear companions,

We have been in love with God

For so very, very long.

What can I now do but Forever

Has your soul ever been filled with more light than the sun can give? Have you ever woken up filled with happiness and you were not sure why?

Some who read this may be able to answer yes, but likely only a few and those times can be counted on one hand. Maybe, you were on a magical vacation were everything just seemed perfect for a few days or you spent a night in the embrace of one you loved deeply.

The brittle truth is that we wake up in fear of what is to come or despair over what has come. Our souls may hint of real joy from time to time, but all too often it is a sad veil covering the dark truths that we have buried so well. We don’t intend to live like that but what we often call the “reality” of life follows us like a dog waiting to be fed. We feed it time and time again and are completely unaware that we do this act of self betrayal. We believe that this “reality” is truth and we must therefore feed it to keep it from attacking us.

The real truth, however, is that the dog has no teeth. What we call reality is actually memory of things that no longer exist or fear and fantasy over things that have not happened. The present moment by moment of our lives is always pregnant with hope of why we were created. We were designed to reflect the One who designed us. We were designed to dance a dance that only we can dance and to sing a song that is given it’s birth in our soul. You and I were created to shine light brighter than any sun has ever dreamed of. Yet, here we sit believing we are nothing more than the victims of cruel “reality”. Our light is hidden from a world that longs to see it and sadly even from ourselves.

But it doesn’t have to be this way!

The eternal gate of freedom has been thrown open and the renewal of your “reality” simply waits for you to claim it. What are you waiting for? It will not come to you. It will not seek you out. You must desire the truth of your authentic self more than you desire anything else, and you must believe you can know it and live it. Only then can you coax it out of hiding and reflect the light you were intended to display. Then and only then you can cause the whole of the universe to rejoice with you in the glory of your design and the One who designed you.

Life Design and the artist

If you do not believe that there is a unique design to your being you will never be truly successful. You will end up being tossed around by the waves of life without a true sense of who you are and direction from your life’s purpose. So regardless of what you believe about how we came about or our connection to the earth or some higher power we all have a unique design that holds the blue print of our true success. When you discover that blueprint for you, your art and your creations will be successful. If you create beautiful art and beautiful expressions and make lots of money and it is not flowing from your unique design, it will not matter how “successful” you are. You will always have a sense of discontent a sense of unsuccessfulness no matter what people think around you. Because true success as an artist must flow from your being and that is what will propel you from being a good artist to an exceptional artist.

As a creative person when you try to create outside of your flow you have problems, in fact we have even gone to celebrating the results of these creations as reflections of that struggle rather then fighting to create out of our unique flow. I know this well. For most of my life I tried to fit in to jobs and communities and ways of thinking that didn’t match my innate god given design. And when we do that we do one of two things. We either sell out and forfeit the very part of you that you love and you begin to devalue yourself more and more until eventually you can even lose yourself. Or we are constantly butting heads with whatever establishment is in charge of where you are trying to fit in to or create in. This in turn causes us a lot of internal stress. Usually the result is us going back and forth between the two and that is no way to live or create and it is definitely not going to breed a successful life. You must learn to live and create organically.

Living organically is not living organically out of your weaknesses which is so often how we paint it. We often just take who we are, who we have become based on all the crap that has happened in our lives and live organically from that. We often use the phrase, “This is who I am”. But it is who you are characterized by how you have devalued yourself and your weaknesses. Rather than living organically as a flow from your strengths, your design. Identifying the good heart in you and living from that is what produces the good art or the successful life.
